Who We Are

For decades, the people of Eastern Congo have endured the heavy burdens of conflict, poverty, and preventable disease. Yet amid adversity, God’s healing work has continued through Nundu Deaconess Hospital and its community partners.

We have witnessed the resilience, faith, and courage of families determined to survive—and to thrive. Today, the needs are as urgent as ever. Mothers still walk miles for safe childbirth. Children still suffer from malnutrition and treatable illnesses. Communities still long for peace and stability.

And yet, there is hope. Through Champions for Congo, Nundu Deaconess Hospital, Jali Afya, and a network of healthcare ministries we are building a future where health, dignity, and resilience replace despair.

Nundu Deaconess Hospital (NDH) serves a population of more than 300,000 people in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. Founded through partnership with Free Methodist World Missions, NDH provides compassionate, trauma sensitive care in one of the world’s most fragile regions. The hospital has grown into a 110-bed referral center, supported by a staff of more than 70, 21 rural health centers and more than 100 Community Health Workers (CHWs). Each year, thousands of patients receive lifesaving treatment ranging from chronic disease management to surgery, maternal child healthcare to malnutrition management.

Jali Afya complements this work with holistic, community-based health programs. By combining medical care with nutrition, education, and economic empowerment, Jali Afya helps families break the cycle of poverty and build lasting resilience. Nutrition gardens, microbusiness loans, and health education are restoring dignity and hope across South Kivu.

Dr. McGee, a visiting surgeon from Oklahoma, works with the surgery team, which includes Congolese surgeon Dr. ByaMungu, providing a message of hope and healing.  Let us know how you would like to be involved in this important ministry known as Champions for Congo.

We invite you to join us in this work. Together we can equip doctors and nurses, strengthen rural health systems, and ensure that no child dies for lack of basic care. Your prayers and support will make a difference in lives and communities for generations.
